Gabby Barrett says she and her husband Cade Foehner were meant to be, even if people think they got married too young.
The former American Idol season 16 contestant shared an unreleased song called “Young” on her Instagram last week that addresses the criticism she received for marrying husband Cade Foehner when she was just 19.
Cade and Gabby met while they were both contestants on the long-running singing competition and got engaged a year after the season aired, officially getting married in 2019 when she was 19 and Cade was 21.

“Young, everyone says we’re too young,” Gabby sings, “Supposed to be single and dancing with strangers, waiting on tables / Just starting out, having fun.”
She continues, playing along acoustically on her guitar, “They say we should just take our time, slow it down / But I didn’t mean to need you like the air that I’m breathing / Baby, you didn’t plan on me now.”
“And we don’t care / They call us crazy / Hey, maybe we are / Yeah, we are / ‘Cause crazy’s how we love / It must be written in the stars / So, what if we are too young?” she concludes.
Before singing, Gabby prefaced the song with, “I got married when I was 19, I never released this song, it’s called ‘Young,’ so here we go.”
In the caption, she also wrote, “This wasn’t the ‘smart choice’. But 8 years later…”
Cade also left a comment, saying, “it’s the ride of a lifetime.”
She’s now 26 and he’s 29.
Gabby was one of several musicians to perform at the Turning Point USA All American Halftime Show alongside Kid Rock and others.
