A historic 76-day shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security is coming to and.
The House voted to approve a bill passed by the Senate on Thursday (April 30) funding the federal agency, and it was signed into law later in the afternoon by President Donald Trump.
The bill will fund agencies like the Secret Service, the Coast Guard and the TSA (Transportation Security Administration) among others through September, but does not add new funding for ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) or Border Patrol amid protests of the agencies and calls for immigration enforcement reform amid several ICE-related deaths in 2026, per NBC News.
Trump agreed to sign an executive order back in March to pay TSA agents amid long lines and chaos at airports around the country, but warned the that emergency DHS funds would have run out later this week.
“We were not going to have lines at TSA. Everybody will get their paychecks now,” House Speaker Mike Johnson said after the vote, via BBC.
One day before, the House passed a budget resolution that would provide a way to fund ICE and border patrol, and it’s already passed the Senate.
“We got the budget resolution passed. This is very, very important, because that will ensure that border security and immigration enforcement will continue today and well into the future.…Democrats got absolutely nothing for their political charade and shenanigans out of them,” the speaker said via NBC News.
Trump also just went after a high-profile personality, demanding their firing.
