Tracy Morgan is under fire right now for some controversial comments he made about teachers.
The 57-year-old comedian sat down for a conversation with Saturday Night Live star Marcello Hernandez as part of Variety’s “Actors on Actors” series and Marcello shared some of his struggles while in school, especially with his Attention Deficit Disorder and teachers sometimes labeling a troublemaker because of it.
“They told me I did mischief in school. Mischief. I talk too much. I was excessive talking,” Marcello explained.
The 30 Rock alum tried to come to his defense, saying, “You know who gave you that voice?” he said. “No, they didn’t understand you.?You had a sense of humor. And they couldn’t control that. God gave that to you.”
Marcello quipped, “And now look at it. I’m getting paid for mischief.”
To which Tracy responded, “And they still making minimum wage,” before taking a sip from his drink.
Tracy kept going, saying, “You know how much them teachers probably making right now?”
Marcello seemed surprised, though he laughed and did add, “Man, not enough.”
But Tracy doubled down on his criticism, saying, “I can’t stand teachers. You know why? Because they have a ceiling. They have a limit. That’s all they ever gonna be. Man, I teach my kids, sky’s the limits.”
People online were not happy with Tracy‘s comments.
On X, one user quoted the clip and wrote, “take the energy yall gave chalamet over ballet and give it to tracy morgan 50x for this like jesus christ what a piece of actual dogshit,” referring back to the Timothee Chalamet controversy over his comments on opera and dance.
“Disrespecting teachers at the ripe age of 57 when the country is dead smack in the middle of the worst literacy crisis in its history and teachers are insanely underpaid (while bragging about being a millionaire) is out-of-touch loser behavior. Everyone is 12!!” said another person.
Meghan Trainor previously had her own controversy surrounding harsh words aimed at teachers in 2023.
