Jon Hamm has been disqualified from one of the 2026 Emmy Award race categories.

The 55-year-old actor can no longer compete in the guest drama actor race for his part in The Morning Show.

Variety confirms that the Mad Men alum was submitted in the guest actor in a drama series category for his performance Paul Marks in season 4 of The Morning Show due to a clerical error.

“While he appears in only three episodes, fewer than half the season’s run, he was ineligible under an Emmy rule that bars actors previously nominated in the lead or supporting categories from competing as a guest performer,” notes the outlet.

The change was introduced in January 2025 and prohibits actors who have been nominated for or won a lead or supporting acting Emmy from submitting in a guest performer category for the same role.

So actors like Meryl Streep, who received a nom for her work on Only Murders in the Building season 3, cannot submit for seasons 4 or 5 despite technically qualifying for a guest role since she appeared in under 50% of episodes in those seasons.

It seems that Apple TV’s team overlooked that rule in Jon‘s case. He was previously nominated for supporting drama actor in 2024 for his work as Paul Marks, meaning he cannot be nominated for the “guest actor” role despite only appearing in three episodes of season 4.

He can still be nominated for other roles, however, such as for his work as the lead in Apple’s Your Friends and Neighbors and his work voicing Marvin Flute in Grimsburg.

There was also a pretty shocking The Pitt change-up for this year’s Emmys, too.
