Lukas Gage is opening up on speaking out about sexual health.
The 31-year-old actor attended the second annual Men’s Health Lab hosted by Hearst Magazines on Tuesday (June 16) at Hearst Tower in New York City.
At the event, Lukas joined Men’s Health executive editor Kengo Tsutsumi and Infectious Disease Specialist and Health Equity Researcher at NYU Langone Health Ofole Mgbako, MD for a conversation about the importance of speaking openly about sexual health.
“For me, owning my sexual health is being proactive,” the actor shared. “It means taking care of all my preventative options, like getting tested, wearing condoms, and of course, [being] on PrEP. And also, it’s just to remind myself that sex should be something that’s fun, and something that we enjoy.”
Lukas also said that he “accidentally became the spokesperson” for sexual health “by the first roles I did,” including The White Lotus, where he was “having sex and having my ass in every show that I’ve been in. I feel fortunate that I was fairly comfortable with it at an early age.”
In his memoir, “I Wrote This for Attention,” Lukas shared his own experience with STIs and the shock that that received so much attention.
“I was so shocked that that was the most coverage I was getting on this book, because so many people were coming forward and saying that they had similar experiences,” he said at the event.
He also spoke to talking to your partners about your sexual health.
“I think it’s really attractive to talk about your sexual health and all these uncomfortable topics with your partner,” Lukas shared. “Trust and honesty is one of the biggest foundations of a working relationship, so now I lean into the uncomfortableness, I think it’s kind of sexy.”
Plus, it helps him be more free.
“By being proactive about my sexual health, I can actually have more fun and more freedom in it.”
Seemingly right after attending the Men’s Health Lab, Lukas hopped on a plane to Los Angeles, because later that night he was on the red carpet at the premiere of his new movie Voicemails for Isabelle in Hollywood!
