Tracee Ellis Ross is setting the record straight on those pregnancy rumors.
Over the weekend, a fake post went viral on social media, claiming that the 53-year-old Emmy-nominated actress is pregnant and expecting her first child.
While appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday night (June 23) to chat about her upcoming Broadway debut in Every Brilliant Thing, Tracee made it very clear that she is NOT pregnant.
“I don’t have social media on my phone right now, and I kept getting texts, and people were like, ‘Congratulations.’ I’m like, ‘On the play? Thank you!’” Tracee said as the audience laughed.
Well, apparently, it’s swirling around, and it seems that people think I’m pregnant,” she continued. “Which is hilarious. I am not pregnant.”
“No, and I don’t know how you get the preggers,” Tracee added with a laugh. “Now, ‘the pregnant’ I think is different from just pregnant. I know how you get pregnant. But ‘the pregnant’ is a thing they make up online when it’s obviously a slow news day.”
Over the years, Tracee has been very open about not wanting her life to be defined by getting married and having children. She condemned societal pressure to do so in a 2021 Marie Claire interview, adding, “Our society spoon-feeds it to you. I used to put myself to sleep dreaming of my wedding.”
The Black-ish actress continued, “And I would still love all of that, but what am I going to do, just sit around waiting? Shut up. I’ve got so many things to do.”
Many other stars have also opened up about the decision to not have children.
