Olivia Thirlby is joining the cast of the CBS show Fire Country and her casting is making history for the TV series.

The 39-year-old actress is best known for her work in movies like 2007’s Juno, 2011’s The Darkest Hour, and 2023’s Oppenheimer. She was also seen in the shows Goliath and Y: The Last Man.

Olivia Thirlby is the first series regular cast addition for Fire Country

Throughout the past four seasons, Fire Country has not added any series regulars to the cast. Olivia is the first person to be added to the main cast since it began!

Deadline reports that Olivia is playing Cecilia Jade “CJ” Ryan, “a quick-witted, fiercely independent, blue-collar, decorated urban firefighter who bolted her station house and city for mysterious reasons. After six months on the road, trying to outrun whatever happened, and herself, fate strands her in Edgewater where she crosses paths with Bode. Despite having no experience fighting woodland fires, Bode believes CJ has something to offer Station 42. And despite the serious culture shock, this fish out of water comes to believe rural Edgewater has something to offer her.”

Fire Country also has a new showrunner

Eric Guggenheim is joining the series as the new showunner, marking the first change in the show’s leadership. The previous four seasons were run by Tia Napolitano.

Here’s what we know about the rest of the cast changes for season five!
