
Jordan Henderson was taken to the hospital on Sunday night (July 5) after England’s big win during the 2026 World Cup.
The 36-year-old midfielder did not play in the game against Mexico, where England took the win 3-2 in Mexico City, but took to the field with his teammates to celebrate their victory.

What happened to Jordan Henderson?
Jordan and the other players ran over to the stands to celebrate with fans, and when he went to jump back over one of the boards, he slipped and fell on his wrist. You can see a video HERE.
Teammate Dan Burn, who hopped over just before Jordan, turned around and saw his teammate. He walked back and immediately waved medics over for help. The athlete was attended to and was taken off the field in a stretcher.

England Manager Thomas Tuchel confirms hospitalization
In a post-match press conference, England manager Thomas Tuchel confirmed Jordan suffered a “serious” injury.
“He injured his wrist, he is at the moment in the hospital,” Thomas shared, via ESPN. “It is a quite serious injury.”
“It just doesn’t fit to the evening that Jordan is now not with us. I don’t know the procedure which is going on. I just did the [media duties] and the doc told me he’s in hospital,” he added.

What’s next for Jordan Henderson?
Per ESPN, Jordan will be staying the night in the hospital with a team staffer as the rest of the team flies back to their training base in Kansas City.
Throughout the World Cup this year, Jordan has only played in one game, against Panama on June 27th in New Jersey. He subbed in and played in the final six minutes of the match. Jordan has previously played in three World Cups.
During the match against Mexico, Jordan was on the bench, but was shown a yellow card in the final stages of the game.
