Amazon Prime Video’s God of War series just hit another major snag.
Earlier today, Just Jared reported that series star Ryan Hurst had injured himself on set, leading to a pause in production. Deadline has now learned he will be recast.
Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios are planning to cast a new actor to portray Kratos, the beloved character from the hit video game franchise.

Ryan Hurst was seriously injured while filming the show
Ryan had worked extremely hard to get into the right shape to play Kratos, reportedly putting on 40 lbs of muscle and working hard to tackle the demanding role. He tore a bicep while doing a stunt for the show and has since undergone surgery and in recovery.
Unfortunately, the timeline for his recovery doesn’t work with the allotted time production has remaining to finish filming the show. Ryan will not be safe to return to the role until 2027 and sources said his “full recovery is a priority,” but his schedule could sadly not be accommodated.
The role of Kratos will be recast
A new actor will be cast with a mid-October start eyed for production to start up once again. Additionally, most of the existing footage will be unusable because child actor Callum Vinson, who plays Kratos’ son Atreus, is already growing up, so they will have to do reshoots.
Earlier this year, the God of War game creator shared brutally honest thoughts on the Amazon show.
