Chloe Fineman is sharing what Lorne Michaels was doing when she called him to say she was leaving Saturday Night Live.
The 38-year-old comedian said told Variety at Apple TV’s The Dink premiere that Lorne, 81, was watching England play against Argentina at the 2026 FIFA World Cup semifinals when she reached out to him.
“He was, in classic form, he was watching England vs. Argentina. He was doing, like, the coolest thing in the world with the coolest people, but we had a lovely talk,” she told the outlet.
Chloe says she joked that he was probably rooting for England because he’s “energetically very British” and Lorne told her he’d call her back. When he did, she says they had “a really lovely chat” about her choice to depart the long-running sketch comedy show after seven years.

Chloe has also already landed her first post-SNL job and will star in the upcoming Myron Bolitar series inspired by Harlan Coben‘s long-running series of books.
