If you can’t find tickets for The Odyssey in IMAX 70mm, you luckily will have plenty of time to catch the movie in that format.
IMAX has committed to showing The Odyssey in all of their theaters through August 13, when the movie The End of Oak Street will then fill those screens. That movie was also filmed for IMAX and the company is obligated to vacate the screens for it upon release.
Even though The End of Oak Street is coming soon to IMAX theaters, it won’t be shown on every IMAX screen.
When is The Odyssey leaving IMAX 70mm theaters?
A spokesperson for IMAX has confirmed to Variety that the company has not committed the IMAX 70mm screens to any other movie until Dune: Part Three, which will be released on December 18.
Because of that, IMAX is allowed to show The Odyssey on those screens through then. The spokesperson said it’s “highly unlikely” that the movie will continue showing on those screens until December 18, but “it will likely return in the format multiple times until the end of the year.”
The Odyssey is the first movie to be shot entirely with IMAX cameras, so fans are trying to watch the film in one of the 41 theaters in the world showing it in IMAX 70mm.
