Four women are accusing Jared Leto, 54, of sexual misconduct.
A new documentary, titled Jared Leto: Hollywood’s Dark Secret, is airing on the BBC on Wednesday (July 29), and it details these claims.
Four of the women who have come forward say they were teenagers when they had encounters with the Thirty Seconds to Mars singer and Oscar winning actor. One alleges that he sexually assaulted her when she was 17 years old in a motel bathroom. Another, at age 19, claims he threatened to sexually assault her.
Another says she was 17 years old when they had sexual relations and, under California law, she was not of the legal age to consent. She also alleges that when she told Leto this, he “shrugged off” her age. “It wasn’t a huge concern for him,” she apparently said. “He told me, ‘I would like you to call me daddy.’ And it was either pretend to be a little girl or ‘my little girl.’”
Another woman is making an allegation of grooming that she says happened when she was 16. He allegedly suggested they have sex. He allegedly wanted her to sign an NDA and she refused. The BBC says they have seen this NDA.
The BBC also noted: “Another woman says, when she was 14, he instructed a security guard to take her backstage at a music festival after having made a lewd comment about her chest during an autograph-signing. The girl’s mother confronted Leto, but he repeated the comment, it is alleged.”
They also shared that these incidents allegedly happened between 2002 and 2016, which would have put Leto in his 30s at the earliest.
Ten total women came forward for the documentary.
The BBC wrote, “Two men who worked with Leto’s band for many years also told the documentary how uncomfortable staff felt about the way Leto would interact with teenage girls, sometimes inviting them backstage to his dressing room or inviting them to the house where he was recording.”
One of them shared a quote: “I think everyone thought the age gap was way too big.”
