Alex Cooper is sharing an update on her pregnancy.
If you didn’t see the news, the 31-year-old Call Her Daddy host announced in May that she is pregnant. This will be the first child for Alex and husband Matt Kaplan.
In a new Instagram video posted on Thursday (July 30), Alex revealed that she has been diagnosed with gestational diabetes.
“I’m not gonna cry on the internet because I’ve never cried on the internet, but when I tell you, I almost did,” Alex said, before explaining that the condition arises when placental hormones cause insulin resistance.
“I was told anyone can get this no matter what your prior weight, diet, fitness level — literally anyone is susceptible to getting it,” she shared, going on to discuss the emotional toll the diagnosis has had on her.
“When I got this diagnosis, the first couple days, I was really hard on myself and it felt very isolating,” Alex admitted. “As much as my family and my husband and everyone was there for me, I just felt like it’s me on an island. This diagnosis was so upsetting, I think, because during pregnancy there’s already so much emotionally that you’re going through.”
She went on to say that she’s felt “blessed” to have already experience many incredible parts of pregnancy.
“Obviously my first instinct was just like, ‘Oh my god, I want my child to be okay and I want my baby to be healthy. I’ll do whatever it takes,’” Alex recalled thinking.
She added that there were still “question marks” about whether her efforts to eat healthy or exercise would pay off when it came to her gestational diabetes.
“Reading people’s experiences, that has been the most helpful so far,” Alex said. “I think it’s a really defeating feeling, but I’m trying to not let myself get defeated.”
