
James Handy has tragically passed away.
The actor, who has appeared in several movies and TV shows over the years, was reportedly stabbed in the chest by his girlfriend’s son, according to Deadline. He was 81.
Per the publication, LAPD responded to a cryptic call around 9:30am on Wednesday (June 3) in Tarzana, Calif. After arriving at a residence, authorities found James unconscious after being stabbed in the chest.
He was transported by ambulance to the local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
According to the report, the 911 caller told the dispatcher, “I am the son of man, I just killed the man of sin.”
The suspect has been identified as Michael Gledhill, 44, who flagged down authorities when they arrived on scene and told them he was the person they were looking for. LAPD says Michael lived at the home with James and Michael‘s mother, who was James‘ girlfriend.
Michael was arrested and has been booked on suspicion of murder, with a bail set at $2 million.
Since making his on-screen debut in 1981 in the movie, Taps, James has had a lengthy career in film and television, appearing in dozens of projects.
He has had recurring roles on shows such as Melrose Place, NYPD Blue, Profiler, The West Wing, Alias and A Dangerous Life.
James most recently appeared on screen in Top Gun: Maverick, as Jimmy, the old bartender at Penny’s bar. He has also had roles in Logan, Arachnaphobia, K-9, and the original Jumanji, pictured here, where he played the exterminator.
