Alexa Demie is opening up about Barbie Ferreira‘s departure from Euphoria.
In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter published on Sunday (May 31) following the HBO drama’s series finale, Alexa reflected on Barbie‘s decision to leave the hit series after just two seasons, years before the show recently concluded with its third and final season.
“I was bummed, but I really respected her decision, she has to take care of herself,” Alexa said when asked about her former co-star.
Barbie played Kat Hernandez during the first two seasons of Euphoria before announcing her exit in 2022. At the time, the show was one of HBO’s biggest hits and had earned widespread acclaim, making her departure a surprise to many fans.
Alexa described her decision as “a brave move,” noting that Barbie walked away from a hugely successful series.

Earlier this year, Barbie also addressed her exit while appearing on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast. The actress explained that discussions about Kat’s future ultimately failed to produce a direction she felt excited about.
“In fact, it was kind of the opposite of dramatic, where it was a long process of being like, ‘I don’t know if this is it for me,’” Barbie said. “And then having conversations with people and us trying to figure out how to make Kat a fully fleshed-out character, and it just wasn’t going anywhere.”
Storm Reid recently chimed in on the show’s ending and explained her character’s absence.
