Amazon MGM is reportedly already looking toward the future of Anna Todd‘s The Last Sunrise.
According to Deadline, the studio is eyeing a sequel to the upcoming film adaptation of Todd‘s bestselling romance novel, despite the first movie not yet being released. Sources told the outlet that screenwriter Anna Klassen has returned to write a follow-up based on a previously unannounced novel by Todd.
The report notes that Todd is planning a trilogy of books tied to the story, with the apparent goal of adapting all three into films if the first installment performs well.
Sources stressed that a sequel has not been officially greenlit, and Amazon MGM has not confirmed plans for a second movie.
Starring Maia Reficco, Fernando Lindez, and Eva Longoria, The Last Sunrise follows 22-year-old Oriah “Ry” Pera, whose life changes during a summer in Majorca after meeting a charming local named Julian.
The film was directed by Carlson Young and produced by Todd alongside Jennifer Gibgot, Andrew Panay, Lena Roklin, and Brian Pitt.
According to the report, The Last Sunrise is expected to debut on Prime Video in August. The project will also be highlighted at Prime Video’s Obsessed Fest fan event in Los Angeles later this month.
Todd is best known for the hugely successful After franchise, which spawned multiple film adaptations and became a global hit with romance fans.
