Brittney Griner and wife Cherelle are calling it quits.

On Friday (July 31), the New York Post reported that the 35-year-old Connecticut Sun center filed for divorce from the 34-year-old lawyer after seven years of marriage.

Brittney filed the court documents in Fulton County, Atlanta, citing “irretrievably broken” as the reason for their split, per the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The WNBA player listed July 24 as their date of separation.

Brittney and Cherelle first more than a decade ago while they both attended Baylor University from 2009 to 2013, though they didn’t start dating until years later. They married in June 2019 nearly a year after Brittney proposed.

Cherelle publicly fought for Brittney‘s release after she was taken into custody by Russian officials for carrying a vape pen containing hash oil in 2022.

The pair share 2-year-old son Bash.

Brittney was previously married to former WNBA star Glory Johnson.
