Cher is making a grand return for Fashion’s Biggest Night!
The 79-year-old “Believe” icon hit the carpet at the 2026 Met Gala held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Monday (May 4) in New York City.

Cher last walked the carpet at the event in 2015, although she did perform inside the party during the 2019 “Notes on Camp” gala.
She also took photos with her goddaughter, Jesse Jo Stark, as she walked the carpet at the 2026 event.
Cher wore a Burberry outfit with a black silk tulle dress and a leather jacket.

The inspiration behind Cher’s 2026 Met Gala look was herself
“Through intimate collaboration with stylist Patti Wilson, [Daniel] Lee and the design team were inspired by Cher’s iconic style history where she has consciously used clothing and the body as a performance tool, including the visionary illusion Bob Mackie dress she wore to The Met Gala in 1974,” Burberry said in a statement, via Town & Country.
“She was never intimidated by anything that I ever put on her,” the legendary designer previously told the outlet.

What Bob Mackie said about dressing Cher
“She was just amazing in that department. She had the most beautiful figure and skin, and looked different than the average pop star at the time. Most of the girls that were popular were all blonde, and they had beehives and flips, and there was Cher with her long, straight hair. I tell you, within a few months, every young girl in America had long, straight hair with it parted in the middle. The whole world changed.”
