Matteo Lane is sharing a major life update.
The 39-year-old comedian and actor has confirmed that he and husband Rodrigo Aburto have gone their separate ways.
The former couple tied the knot in August 2023, which they revealed via a fun video on social media, wearing black and red outfits, throwing confetti in the air and sharing a kiss.
Matteo shared the news of their split after much fan speculation during the Thursday (June 18) episode of his podcast, “I Never Liked You,” with Nick Smith.
“I’m so uncomfortable. I don’t know how to say this,” he started out. “Rodrigo and I did break up. I know a lot of people have been asking about it. Yeah, we did break up, but the good thing about this is that him and I are still friends with each other.”
“I mean, I literally just called him to be like, ‘Hey, I think it’s time I chat about it,’” Matteo continued. “Obviously, we kind of wanted our privacy to sort of figure out how we feel and when it was the right time, etc. But we are really good friends, which I love. I actually feel quite proud of that that I’m like, okay, I know I can call him independent of…”
“Look, it sucks to break up with someone and then, you know, you’re not sure how to tell people and I don’t know. I’ve started talking about it on stage. I wrote jokes and, of course, I called him and I was like, ‘Hey, I have a bunch of jokes. I want to read them over with you first,’” the comedian shared. “‘I wouldn’t want to talk on stage without you knowing.’ And he was like, ‘You know, of course.’ And we laughed.. And then I took some time.”
He also shared that after their breakup, he dated another guy, who he has since broken up with as well, but also remains friends with.
“It was a difficult time to navigate,” he said about his split from Rodrigo, adding the second split was similar difficult in navigating.
“We’re through to the other side, and I’m happy to say that, you know, they’re two friends of mine,” Matteo said. “I just kind of wanted to be open about that and I’m feeling really exposed.”
It was recently announced that Matteo will be making his Broadway debut in Chicago this summer, starting on Monday (June 22)!
Rodrigo is a fitness, lifestyle and self care influencer, who has also done some acting. He recently was a recurring guest star on Netflix’s Beauty in Black season two.
