Reese Witherspoon was on hand to offer advice during the production of Elle season one.

The 50-year-old actress is an executive producer on the new Prime Video prequel series, which centers on her Legally Blonde character in high school.

Following the release of the first season, the showrunners of the series are opening up about just how involved Reese was during the writers’ room ahead of filming.

“She wasn’t in the weeds with us that much with the story. She read the outline for season 1 and came in and asked questions about it,” co-showrunner Caroline Dries told People. “And then she would just throw out these nuggets of gold about her experience, or she’d be like, ‘What about this or this?’ And you’re just like, Yes, please!’”

She added that Reese offered perspectives of the “high school experience” in the 1990s “that she wanted to make sure we were hitting.”

“She knew that we would do the Easter Eggs,” Caroline said.

Co-showrunner Laura Kittrell added that Reese shared “specific ’90s experiences and feelings” that the writers knew had to be included in the show.

Caroline says she and the writers “cherished” Reese‘s ideas, and it was just their job to “sort of expand on that.

While Reese offered some of her own perspectives and experiences, Caroline says she “kept a really respectful distance, and just let us do what we wanted to do.”
