Francesca Scorsese is opening up about the moment she realized the extent of her dad Martin Scorsese‘s fame.
The 26-year-old actress and social media content creator made an appearance on the Zach Sang Show, where she addressed how she first learned the 83-year-old Goodfellas director was famous, and also how it affected the relationships with the people in her life.
“I have two different scenarios. The first one was when I realized that my dad was well known. I was like 4 years old. This is ridiculous. I don’t know what prompted me to do this, but I walked into a Cold Stone Creamery, and I walked up to an old lady and I was like, ‘My dad’s Martin Scorsese.’ She was like, ‘No.’ I was like, ‘Look,’” she explained.
“I remember looking up at this woman and she lost her mind. And I was like, ‘Cool.’ Then I left. I mean, I guess I got my ice cream and I f—ing left. But that I remember. And I was like, ‘Okay, so he’s famous. And that’s what famous means. A random old woman in a Cold Stone Creamery can just know who that is.’”
Francesca then explained how it extended to the people around her.
“I think once I was in middle or high school, it sort of manifested itself as not necessarily who my dad was, but who I was around. Like Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, Andrew Garfield. I was at an all-girls school, so all the girls were like, ‘Andrew Garfield! Leonardo DiCaprio!’ freaking out. ‘Oh my God, can I come over? I want to meet them.’”
“That’s when it was like, ‘Oh, people have different intentions.’ My friends are my friends, or they’re becoming more interested in me because of who I’m around, as opposed to who I am. So I became very guarded, and I have a lot of trust issues.”
Francesca also spoke out about sharing her life with people.
“It’s so hard. It’s so hard. The thing is, I love to include people in the things that I’m doing. My best friends, I’m like, ‘You’re coming with me. We’re going to work together. We’re going to make stuff.’ I’m very loyal to the people that I really go hard for,” she said.
“I love making friends. I love making connections with people. You’re lovely. I love talking creatively and just getting to know people. But I have a very hard time getting very close with people, if that makes sense. After so long, you kind of become attuned to people’s vibes and energy. I’ve definitely made some mistakes. There’s definitely some people that I’ve had close to me that I’m like, ‘God, I can’t believe I let them into my life.’”
Francesca was born in November 1999 to Martin and his fifth wife, Helen Schermerhorn Morris.
