Lionel Messi is a legend.
The 38-year-old Argentinean superstar soccer player broke the all-time World Cup goals record during the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Monday (June 22) in the game against Austria, bringing his tally to 17.
He entered this World Cup with 13 career goals across five World Cup tournaments. The record-breaking goal also broke the 0-0 tie over a half hour into the match.
Lionel just beat out Germany’s Miroslav Klose to make the all-time record.
Kylian Mbappé has 14, while Harry Kane has 10.
In addition to scoring the most goals in World Cup history, he also has more Ballon d’Or awards than any player in history, as well as commanding the record for most goals scored in a calendar year (91 in 2012), most goals scored for a single club (672 for Barcelona), and most goals in La Liga history (474), per NBC News.
