Mika Abdalla and Jake Short are speaking out together after a resurfaced podcast clip sparked conversation online following news of their breakup.
The former couple, who recently ended their five-year relationship, released a joint statement to Us Weekly addressing the renewed attention surrounding a 2024 appearance on the podcast The Sit and Chat.
“We’ve seen a conversation around clips of us together when we were in a relationship, and people making harmful and inaccurate assumptions about our dynamic,” Mika and Jake said.
The pair pushed back on the online speculation, emphasizing that their relationship was built on mutual respect.
The couple said they “were in a loving, respectful relationship for five years,” adding that, “it’s hurtful to see playful moments dissected in a way that does not reflect the respect and love we had and still have for each other.”
The statement comes days after news broke that the former fiancés had gone their separate ways. A representative previously confirmed to Us Weekly that Mika and Jake are no longer together but continue to support one another as friends.
The actors met while working on the film Sex Appeal and later became engaged before ending their relationship.
Despite the breakup, Mika and Jake appear united in asking fans not to draw conclusions about their past relationship based on clips circulating online, even as an insider shares the supposed truth behind their split.
