
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie just hit a major box office milestone!
The animated sequel has officially crossed the $1 billion mark in it’s ninth weekend at the box office. It was released in theaters on April 1st.
This is the first theatrical release of 2026 to hit that milestone, according to TheWrap.

The first movie in the franchise hit $1.36 billion at the box office back in 2023, and is one of the highest grossing animated movies of all time.
Following it’s release, the Super Mario Galaxy Movie broke box office records when it opened to a global sum of $372 million.

The Michael Jackson biopic, Michael, is on it’s way to reach $1 billion. After seven weekends, the film is nearing $900 million and could reach the billion mark after it’s Japan release this coming weekend, on June 12th.
While it hasn’t been released yet, Toy Story 5 could also become a billion dollar movie, as the past two films in the franchise have passed that mark. The Disney Pixar movie debuts in theaters on June 19th.
