The Batman Part II is officially underway!
Writer and director Matt Reeves confirmed the start of production on Friday (June 12), sharing a photo from the set.
“#FirstShot #TheBatmanPart2 CC: @emesserschmidt Here We Go…” he captioned the snap, taggind the sequel’s director of photography, Erik Messerschmidt.
Featured in the photo is the slate in focus, with a man lying on a gurney in the background, with a sheet over his bottom half. It’s unclear who the person is.
The news of filming starting comes nearly a year since Matt Reeves revealed that the script was finally finished. It’s been over four years since the first movie hit theaters.
In late 2024, DCU co-CEO James Gunn responded to a fan asking if an article stating the sequel’s release date was moved back to 2027 was true.
“Sure. Yes, it is true. The only reason for the delay is there isn’t a full script (those of you who follow me here probably know that already),” he wrote on Threads at the time. “Matt is committed to making the best film he possibly can, and no one can accurately guess exactly how long a script will take to write. Once there is a finished script, there is around two years for pre-production, shooting and post-production on big films.”
