There’s some drama brewing between Nickelodeon’s The Thundermans actor Jack Griffo and a girl on TikTok, who shared screencaps of the Instagram messages that he sent her.
TikTok user @ava_hamet participated in the “saxophones are blaring” trend on June 22 by sharing the messages that Jack had been sending her for the past couple weeks. The post didn’t go viral until weeks later, but has now been seen over 4.5 million times.
According to the screencap of the alleged messages, Jack, 29, messaged Ava one day after her birthday and wrote, “Happy Bday Ava. Was going to say yesterday but I wanted you to see my message. Was it spectacular?” Two days went by and she didn’t respond, so he followed up with, “Avaaa?”
One week later, Jack sent Ava an expiring video message in her DMs. After she didn’t reply to that either, he followed up the next day and wrote, “I’ll never understand following and leaving me on read… esp as a Christian – something very weird and off there, truly strange behavior! Take care Ava.”
Jack Griffo responds to Ava’s initial post going viral
After Ava‘s post went viral, Jack playfully responded on his TikTok story.
Jack shared a photo of himself on the golf course and captioned it, “Happy birthday avaa lolll.”

Ava then went back on TikTok on July 14 and shared a nearly eight-minute story time video, in which she shared more screencaps and also explained what Jack allegedly said in the expiring video.
“A little back story, he had followed my god sister on Instagram. I’m guessing he found my account through hers because we have pictures together. Then he followed me. I followed him back. I wasn’t the first person to follow him. I wouldn’t consider myself a fan. I watched him when I was like five, and that’s it,” Ava said.
Ava said that she posted on Instagram for her birthday and he liked the post. Then he waited one day to send her the Instagram DM, which can be seen above.
Ava noted that she tried to screen-record Jack‘s expiring video, but the app wouldn’t let her. She said, “Basically, in the video, he was like sitting on his couch in the living room and he was like, ‘Hey Ava, I know you don’t know me, but I followed you a few months ago. Obviously you’re not really feeling, like, everything that I’ve said to you, but I decided to unfollow you two days ago and now every single time I go on Instagram, you’re my whole feed and my whole Explore page, so I feel like it’s the algorithm telling us we’re meant to talk so I’ll give it one last try.’ I don’t remember exactly what he said, so don’t quote me on anything, but that was the gist of what he was saying.”
“I was weirded out to begin with, because he’s 30, but maybe he doesn’t know that I’m a minor. But that’s just interesting to do on Instagram DMs to anyone,” Ava said.
Ava said that after he appeared to be “mad” at her, she decided to respond because she wanted the messages to end.
Ava told Jack that she appreciated the birthday message and it was “super sweet of you.”
Jack responded by asking Ava, “How old did you turn and I’m curious – what are you looking to get into after school?”
Ava replied, “I just turned 17. And I plan on either going into comms like being a sports jouranlist or acting/modeling.”
After Jack realized Ava was a minor, his interest seemed to go away and he expressed that he thought she was older.
“Oh man. That sucks. Lmao. I never would have thought that,” Jack said. She replied, “How old do you think I am?” He responded, “Not that haha.”
After Jack posted his TikTok story joking about “happy birthday,” Ava said she thought it was “so funny. He’s playing along with it. He’s not mad.”
Ava then checked her DMs and saw that Jack messaged her. He was basically like, “I hope you got what you wanted from posting that. Hope your five minutes of fame is enough to satisfy you.” She noted, “Not the nicest way to word it… I have not responded to his texts. The cycle repeats itself honestly because I just don’t know what to say.”
Jack Griffo responds after Ava posts her story time video
It appears that Jack saw that Ava posted her full story time about the situation. While it’s unclear if he’s actually responding to her, he posted some cryptic messages that appear to reference it all.
Jack posted a graphic on Instagram Stories with the quote, “Gossiping only reveals the insecurities of the gossiper, not the truth about the person being talked about.”
He set the story to Drake‘s hit song “Janice STFU.” If you didn’t know, STFU stands for “shut the f–k up.”
On his TikTok Stories, Jack posted a graphic with the quote, “Great minds discuss ideas. Average minds discuss events. Small minds discuss people.”
Jack was recently seen in a reboot of his fan-fave Nickelodeon project.
