Will there be a Descendants 6?

At the time of this post, despite D5 ending on a cliffhanger, Disney has not announced if there will be a sixth movie yet. However, given that they teased another installment, it’s likely the Mouse House is already planning to continue the franchise with a sixth movie!

What happened in the Descendants 5 cliffhanger?

At the end of the movie, following the finale number, Cheesy the Cat (voiced by Awkwafina) appears, saying, “Ugh, I hate happy endings. Time to start some new mischief.”

We then see Liamani Segura‘s Pink returning to the party room, and after saying goodbye, she says, “What is that?” and looks under a table to find a mysterious glowing object that she puts in her and Red’s heart-shaped treasure box.

Chessy then climbs onto a table and says, “Oh, you didn’t think that was the end of the story, did you? Of course not! That would be too sweet.”

What the cast and executive producer say about a possible sixth movie

While speaking with TVLine, executive producer Suzanne Todd talked about the ending and teased the franchise’s future.

“We love the world of magical objects and what those could be,” she said. “We had made some specific decisions [about that last scene], and we shot it a number of different ways. In the end, we decided to go with what you saw, but we did have some specific ideas about trajectories we might want to jump off of that are interesting.”

Of the cliffhanger, Liamani added, “You never know with Pink. I think she has tricks up her sleeves, I really do. I don’t know what the trinket is, but I guess we’ll have to see!”

In another interview, Liamani played coy about what the cliffhanger could mean for her character Pink.

“What if Pink is evil?” she tells People, joking that maybe she could get a “Queen of Mean” moment. “Maybe she has powers that she doesn’t know of.”

Rita Ora, who plays Pink’s mom, the Queen of Hearts, is fully down to return for a third movie!

“Absolutely, yes. You don’t even need to finish the sentence,” she told People.

“My children are growing. I’ve got two [kids] in this one,” she added. “I don’t know what the future of the Queen of Hearts is, but I loved the idea of switching from villain to goodie to villain to goodie.”

Kylie Cantrall, who plays Pink’s big sister Red, says she’s satisfied with her character’s arc ending.

“It’s been the joy of a lifetime playing this character,” she shared with People. “I feel so content with Red’s story up until this point. So I guess it’s in the Mouse’s hands to see.”
