Emily Ratajkowski is looking back at the end of her marriage to Sebastian Bear-McClard.
If you didn’t know, the 35-year-old model and the 45-year-old producer got married in February 2018 and welcomed their son Sylvester in March 2021. Just over a year later, they split in July 2022 and she filed for divorce that September after four years of marriage.
In a new essay for The Cut published on Friday (June 12), Emily shared some rare comments about how her “marriage collapsed,” adding that she and Sebastian stopped having sex six months after she gave birth.
“It was a violent transition into a new reality of screaming baby on my aching tit and ring on my swollen finger,” she wrote. “And then, in a time period that felt both instant and excruciatingly slow, my marriage collapsed. Six months after my son was born, my husband and I stopped having sex. Less than a year later, we separated.”
Emily wrote that she “hated the condescending way people looked at me in the wake of my breakup,” recounting, “Their furrowed brows, the pity in their faces as they delivered an ‘I’m so sorry, Emily.’ I couldn’t stand my pathetic reflection in their eyes. They saw me as someone who was unwanted, who had been left.”
She went on to admit that she had always feared becoming a single mother.
“Having a child with the wrong man was the fastest way to ruin your life as a woman — it meant having no freedom, no choices, no emergency exit,” she shared. “All baggage and no security.”
However, Emily said that she quickly learned to embrace her single mom era and went on a hookup “mania,” boasting that she “decided to f–k my way into a new kind of woman.”
Emily said that she realized that her new single life was nothing like her life before marriage.
“Before my separation, I’d never had a one-night stand,” she shared. “I’d never slept with someone the same day I met them. In fact, I’d only slept with eight people: four of whom had been live-in boyfriends, and one of whom was my male best friend in high school.”
“I didn’t f–k anyone I wasn’t pretty sure would fall in love with me because I wanted to be precious,” she added.
