Hannah Waddingham is celebrating the release of her new action-comedy series Ride or Die, in which she co-stars opposite of Octavia Spencer.

As part of her promotional tour for the show, the Emmy-winning Ted Lasso star sat down for an in-depth profile with The Guardian, in which she provided some rare comments about her daughter, Kitty, including why she sometimes feels “mummy guilt.”

Hannah Waddingham has an 11-year-old daughter named Kitty

The actress was previously in a relationship with Italian luxury hotel manager Gianluca Cugnetto. They share one daughter, Kitty, 11. After their split, Hannah has remained a single parent. She previously carried a handbag to the Screen Actors Guild Awards in 2024 that was made out of cardboard, handcrafted by Kitty.

“I picked it up and went, ‘It’s actually got more space in it than a normal, designer, ridiculous handbag, so I’m going to take it up the red carpet.’ I did it on purpose, to show her that she’s never far away from me,” she told The Guardian, before revealing she still feels guilty when she has to be away for work.

Hannah continued, “God, all the time. I’m about to go away to do press for the next season of Ted [Lasso], and the mummy guilt descends. But I have to try and combat it.”

Motherhood has impacted Hannah’s career choices

Hannah hasn’t been able to do theater since the early 2010s due to the demanding hours, saying she doesn’t think her daughter is “ready” for that kind of time commitment.

“I need to find the time to be able to go, ‘I’m taking this coat off for now and I’m putting my theatre coat back on,’” she shared.

The Game of Thrones alum also shared an anecdote from when she pregnant while auditioning for the hit HBO drama, revealing she was “eight months pregnant” at the time and didn’t expect to get it. She had to take her nine-week-old daughter to set and could hear young Kitty crying while she filmed the famous walk of shame scene.

“And I just thought, oh my God, what am I doing?” Hannah recalled. “The other part was going, I’ve got terrible separation anxiety. So when I watch it back, I just see a woman who doesn’t know whether she’s coming or going.”
