Joe Locke is opening up about the sex scenes in his new movie, Heartstopper Forever.
The 22-year-old actor reprises his role as Charlie Spring in the Heartstopper finale movie and serves as an executive producer.
As Charlie and Nick’s (Kit Connor) relationship progresses, the young couple engage in sexual intercourse several times throughout the nearly two-hour film.
In a new interview, Joe opened up about filming the sex scenes and the role they play in the story.
“The sex scenes were probably not hugely technically challenging for us,” Joe told Teen Vogue. “We were so comfortable with each other by the time we were doing this. Obviously, it’s not the most comfortable experience doing that in a room full of people that you don’t know as well as we know each other.”
“I think that the sex scenes are so important in the film in a way of just bringing the closeness of them together, and I think that they’re some of the most beautiful scenes in the film,” he continued.
“Our show sometimes got the criticism of being unrealistic in some ways. And teenagers have sex—that’s probably the most realistic thing,” Joe added. “So I think, especially with the pier scene, it’s this desire between these two people that they need to deal with in that moment, and I think that’s very realistic.”
Ahead of Heartstopper Forever‘s release, Joe and Kit defended the movie for having those intimate scenes between their characters.
